The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has expressed its backing for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s proposed economic policies, particularly his plans to tackle unemployment.
Mahama’s 2024 manifesto outlines a 24-hour economy initiative and accelerated industrialisation as key strategies to generate jobs for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ICU’s new office complex in Accra on Wednesday, December 18, ICU General Secretary Morgan Ayawine stressed the importance of a collective effort in addressing socio-economic challenges and fostering national development.
“We have so many problems, and one of them, which is a major albatross on our necks, is the unemployment situation.
“So if we are leading people, we are leading workers, and then we want the graduates who are roaming the streets of Accra and the regional capitals to get jobs, do we sit aloof and say, the government should do it alone? It takes the collective responsibility of everybody [to create jobs].”
