Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concern over the exorbitant cost of the Hajj pilgrimage, which he believes has become a significant financial obstacle for many Muslims.

He lamented that the high cost, which has skyrocketed to GH¢75,000.00, is forcing many to seek alternative routes, making it inaccessible to many who wish to embark on this spiritual journey.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, June 16, to mark Eid ul-Adha, Mahama reflected on his tenure as President, when Hajj fares were relatively affordable at GH¢11,900.00.

He promised that if given the opportunity to lead the country again, he would work tirelessly to make the pilgrimage more affordable for the Ghanaian Muslim community, ensuring inclusivity for all.

Earlier that day, Mahama joined the Ahlussuna Wal-Jamah group for Eid prayers, emphasizing the importance of making the Hajj pilgrimage accessible to all.

He extended Eid Mubarak greetings to all, praying for peace and prosperity for the nation.
