Ghana’s Black Stars coach, Otto Addo, has reaffirmed his authority in team selection, stating that the potential return of captain Andre Dede Ayew will be his sole decision.
Addo emphasized that external pressure will not influence his choice, and the team’s needs will be the top consideration.

After Ghana’s 4-3 win over the Central African Republic on June 10, 2024, Addo revealed that Dede Ayew still has a future with the team, but the timing of his return will be determined by the coaching staff.
Addo acknowledged Jordan Ayew’s desire to have his brother on the team, saying, “Let me speak for Jordan. He wants his brother next to him, but the decision is mine and the coaching staff’s.”
Addo stressed his responsibility to make decisions that benefit the national team and Ghana, saying, “I have a responsibility to the national team, to Ghana, and I have to decide what is best for the team.” He added, “Who knows? Maybe he’s there, maybe not, but I don’t know. Maybe I’m not there anymore. We don’t know what happens.”
Notably, Dede Ayew was absent from the 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but his younger brother, Jordan, excelled in his absence, scoring four goals in two matches, including a hat-trick against the Central African Republic
This marked Jordan’s 100th appearance for Ghana.
Addo’s decision on Dede Ayew’s return will be based on what’s best for the team, and he hinted that the future is uncertain for both the player and himself.
Despite the uncertainty, Addo’s stance is clear: he will make decisions that benefit the team, regardless of external pressure or personal relationships.
