Ghana international Joseph Aidoo made a long-awaited return to the field over the weekend as Celta Vigo defeated Real Valladolid 3-1 in La Liga, ending his 11-month absence from competitive play.

Aidoo, who had been sidelined with a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury since October 2023, entered the game in the 89th minute, replacing Javi Rodriguez for his first appearance of the season.

The injury, which occurred during a friendly against Mexico and forced him off in the 28th minute, kept Aidoo out for 257 days. As a result, he missed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

After joining Celta Vigo for pre-season, Aidoo had been on the bench in previous matches before making his comeback.

Now back in action, the 28-year-old will be looking to secure more playing time and potentially earn a recall to the Black Stars squad.

Joseph Aidoo’s absence has been a significant loss for both club and country, with the Black Stars struggling defensively in several matches.

Since Otto Addo’s second stint as coach, the team has conceded in all six games under his management, largely due to an inconsistent backline affected by injuries. Aidoo’s return could help strengthen Ghana’s defense moving forward.
