Southampton manager Russell Martin has praised forward Kamaldeen Sulemana, highlighting his exceptional skills, athleticism, and speed.

Sulemana, who recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff, is in contention to start his first league game this Saturday after making his 10th appearance of the season in a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

The Ghanaian winger joined Southampton from Rennes prior to the 2022-23 season but has faced challenges in making a significant impact. Despite nearly securing a transfer to Ajax during the summer, he remains with the Saints.

Martin noted, “He can give you moments that no one else can give you with his athleticism, power, and pace. Some of the things he can do at top speed are truly incredible.”

However, Sulemana’s goal-scoring record has been underwhelming, with only two goals in 44 appearances, prompting the manager to expect more consistency from him.

Sulemana had been set to make a strong impact in the Premier League after Southampton’s promotion but missed the first seven league games this season due to a pre-season injury sustained against Oxford United.

Martin emphasized the need to keep Sulemana physically fit, stating, “If we can do that and keep him in a good place physically, then we have someone who can really make a difference for us in games.”

As Southampton prepares to face Leicester City this Saturday, Sulemana’s return is seen as a potential confidence boost for a team that has struggled, earning only one point in their first seven league outings.
