Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and 2024 presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has officially withdrawn from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing “Thank You” tour, citing security threats to his supporters.

The decision comes in the wake of a violent incident during a tour event at the Pentecost Church in Bantama, Kumasi. A student from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), affiliated with Unity Hall’s Jama group and hired by Agyapong’s team to perform, was stabbed.

According to Agyapong’s team, a wealthy associate of the former MP gave money to the Jama group during the event. Subsequently, a group of heavily built, armed men—allegedly affiliated with the NPP—confronted the students and forcibly took the money.

Agyapong has filed an official complaint with the Kumasi Central Police Command and has vowed to seek justice for the victim. He stated, “Because of what happened yesterday, my team and I want to pull out because lives are threatened. I don’t think I can protect my team enough. So we want out so that Dr. Bawumia can do his campaign”.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Agyapong confirmed his withdrawal from the tour and vowed to pursue justice for the victim.

“Because of what yesterday, myself and my team want to pull out because lives are threatened, I don’t think I can protect my team enough.  So we want out so that Dr Bawumia can do his campaign.”
