Mr. Boakye Yiadom has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is purportedly urging potential presidential primary candidates to withdraw from the race, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia being declared as the party’s presidential nominee. He mentioned that Kennedy Agyapong is the sole candidate who has declined the party’s request and has advocated for the presidential primary to proceed as initially scheduled.
His remarks were made in response to Alan Kyerematen’s decision to exit from the November 4, 2023, primary election. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that there might have been other factors that influenced the former Trade and Industry Minister’s choice to withdraw from the competition.
”My investigation and the information I have gathered have revealed that some senior members of the party are engaging with some candidates and advising them to withdraw from the race so that they will not run on November 4th. Kennedy Agyapong, on the other hand, has refused to withdraw and has asked the party to hold the primary on November 4 as planned.
”Kennedy Agyapong, from what I’ve heard, has affirmed his decision to give the party a showdown, as he promised,” he added. I’m not sure about the other candidates, but Kennedy appears to be willing to go all in and compete in the primary.”
Mr. Boakye Yiadom emphasized the importance of crisis management and also advised the NPP to manage the situation in order to avoid any negative consequences because if Alan decides to run an independent candidacy, it will Mar the chances of NNP’s he said.
