Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has officially submitted his nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race, making a passionate appeal to delegates to stand firm in their choice.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters and party faithful after filing his nomination on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Mr. Agyapong urged delegates to ignore public speculation and negative commentary surrounding his candidacy, stressing that their decision will determine the NPP’s political fortunes in the 2028 general election.

“I’m on my knees, I beg you in the name of God, do not listen to what Ghanaians are saying. Vote for Kennedy Agyapong, and victory will be assured for the NPP in 2028. Wherever you go, Ghanaians are crying for Kennedy Agyapong. Don’t allow anyone to intimidate you. Party victory is paramount, so let us unite and select a candidate who can deliver,” he declared.

The outspoken politician cautioned delegates against succumbing to what he described as “intimidation and selfish interests” within the party.

According to him, only a bold, independent-minded candidate can steer the NPP back to power after the party’s resounding defeat in the 2024 elections.

He maintained that his track record as a businessman and long-serving legislator demonstrates his capacity to transform the party’s image, reconnect with grassroots supporters, and appeal to the wider Ghanaian electorate.

The NPP flagbearership contest is expected to be fiercely competitive, with several high-profile figures already signalling their intentions to run.

The party is under pressure to select a candidate who can rebuild internal cohesion, restore public confidence, and mount a credible challenge to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next national polls.

Mr. Agyapong, who bowed out of Parliament in 2025 after representing Assin Central for nearly two decades, has often styled himself as a grassroots politician unafraid to speak truth to power.

His campaign has so far centred on themes of accountability, economic empowerment, and restoring hope among the party’s base.
