The management of Kintampo Waterfalls in the Kintampo Municipality of the Bono East Region has strongly condemned the circulation of false information about the facility on social media.
They have assured the public that steps are being taken to address the issue and protect the reputation of the tourist site.
Although the waterfalls did not meet their 2024 target of attracting 30,000 visitors, management says efforts are underway to increase visitor numbers in the coming months.
Located in the heart of the Kintampo Municipality, the Kintampo Waterfalls have recently undergone major renovations. These include paved walkways, additional staircases, and a brand-new canopy walkway, all of which have enhanced the site’s appeal, especially during festive seasons.Despite these upgrades, the facility has still battled with challenges due to the spread of fake news on social media. Management has condemned these actions and is taking proactive steps to counter the misinformation.
“The main thing is that when it rains, the rains carry a lot of waste, and that is what changes the colour of the water. Because of the illegal mining issue in the country, people assume that it is a result of that, but we shouldn’t use it as a platform to parade false news.”
Michael Afeke, Manager of the Kintampo Waterfalls, revealed that several strategies are being implemented to help achieve the 30,000 visitor target for this year.“There are so many strategies on board. There is the traditional marketing that is, which involves the local media available in Kintampo and also the digital media. These are the two ways that have strengthened our marketing, and we are seeing the results so far.”
Visitors who have toured the waterfalls praised the improvements and shared their positive experiences, emphasising the site’s beauty and upgraded features.“We have heard a lot about the place, so we came to observe, and when we came, compared to previous conversations that we have heard, I think there has been a bit of exchange.”
“I have heard a lot about the place, but this is my first time being here. Most of the people that we came with have been there before, and they told us about it, so we travelled about four hours just to experience it.”he stated.
