The 2025 Alumni Homecoming of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been officially launched, marking the start of a series of activities aimed at reconnecting graduates and advancing the university’s development agenda.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Dr. Saarah-Mensah, a former Chairman of the KNUST Council and former Minister for Youth and Sports. In his remarks, Dr. Saarah-Mensah encouraged the university to remain resilient in the face of challenges, emphasizing that “KNUST can excel in any endeavour.” He also urged alumni to support the institution by contributing to the KNUST Alumni Endowment Fund.

Held under the theme “Celebrating Our Legacy, Building Our Future,” the homecoming is expected to bring together alumni from all generations to reflect on KNUST’s achievements, propose innovative strategies for institutional growth, and help sustain its reputation for excellence.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, former CEO of Ghana Gas Company, called on alumni to help bridge the gap between academia and industry. He emphasized the need for enhanced practical training for students, including stronger internship and research opportunities.

“There’s a need for practical training through internships and research sponsorships,” Dr. Asante noted, suggesting that internship durations be extended to offer students deeper, hands-on experience and better prepare them for industry demands.

“Periods of internships at companies should be significantly longer. In fact, it should be longer than the two or three months when the students come and all they do is just fetch water. A year should be more meaningful, and it should be part of the academic curriculum,” he said.

Dr. Asante also encouraged both alumni and students to uphold mutual respect, regardless of whom they interact with, stressing that good behaviour is always rewarding.

A panel discussion led by the Managing Director of Citi FM and Channel One TV, Samuel Atta Mensah, spotlighted the university’s achievements, opportunities available for KNUST students, and recommendations for enhancing the academic experience to ensure students receive a world-class education.
