Koku Anyidoho, a former NDC deputy general secretary, predicts that the party will suffer significant vote loss in the Northern Region, a traditional stronghold, in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general election.
In a June 18, 2024, interview on Oyerepa TV, Anyidoho attributed his prediction to the controversial removal of Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader, which has upset the Dagomba community, leading to potential anti-NDC voting in the region.

The NPP’s gains in the North, with President Akufo-Addo appointing Northern Region representatives to key government positions, such as Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam as Finance Minister, is another factor contributing to the NDC’s potential decline.
Anyidoho noted that this move has created a narrative that the NDC disrespects northern leaders while the NPP empowers them.
The perceived disrespect towards Haruna Iddrisu, a northern son, has further fueled this narrative.
Anyidoho warned that the NDC’s mishandling of the minority leadership transition may cost them dearly in the election, as the NPP’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahama Bawumia, has a strong following in the North and may capitalize on the NDC’s mistakes to secure victory.
The NPP’s gains in the North East, Northern, and Savannah regions have already shown a shift in dynamics, and Anyidoho believes this trend may continue in the upcoming election.
