The Concerned Citizens of Komenda Traditional Area have officially notified the Ghana Police Service of their planned demonstration on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

In a statement dated August 5, the group announced they expect at least 2,000 participants from Komenda and surrounding areas. The protest will start at 6:00 a.m. in Komenda Township and end at Komenda Junction.
This notification complies with Section 1, Clause 1 of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), which mandates notifying the police at least five days before any public event.
The demonstration is in response to the government’s decision to lease the Komenda Sugar Factory to an Indian firm.
The protesters are demanding that the government reverse its decision to import raw sugar and restore the factory’s original purpose of using local sugarcane.
They are also calling for the annulment of the lease agreement, citing procedural and stakeholder engagement issues.
