The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has welcomed the Supreme Court’s directive for the Electoral Commission (EC) to suspend all proceedings and activities related to the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, pending the final determination of a case before the court.
The ruling effectively puts on hold preparations by the EC for the rerun until the legal issues surrounding the matter are fully resolved.
After the court ruling, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, said the party respects the court’s decision.
He explained that, contrary to claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP had been campaigning in Kpandai, the party has been adhering to the law.
“We have heard our colleagues in the NDC who were counting on how our people are campaigning in Kpandai, and they say they have seen the MP campaigning. But Nyindam lives in that community, and that is where he comes from.
“So, we are not campaigning; we knew the law was going to speak, and today that law spoke. We are very grateful to the court for standing with the law,” he said.
He added that the party calls on the Supreme Court to continue upholding the rule of law and ensure that strict legal procedures are followed. “I don’t think that anybody should be able to bypass the court and do whatever they want,” he said.
Mwanehile, the apex court adjourned proceedings to January 13, 2026, to allow for further consideration of the issues raised by the parties.
