Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the procurement of two new pumps for the Kpeve Water Supply Station in the Volta Region to address the ongoing water shortages affecting the Ho township and surrounding areas.

In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on February 5, GWL’s Communications Director, Stanley Martey, outlined the procurement process and the timeline for the installation of the new equipment. The pumps are expected to arrive by mid-March, with installation set to be completed within a week of their arrival.

To manage the interim shortage, GWL has been rehabilitating older pumps sourced from other treatment plants. Martey explained that the Kpeve station, built in 1993, has faced increasing pressure due to population growth, leading to frequent breakdowns of its pumps. The new equipment is expected to alleviate these challenges.

“In the short time, we are working at fixing the old pumps that we had from other treatment plants and we are praying that they work so that we can start the treatment.”

The recent water shortages have posed challenges to residents of Ho, affecting households, businesses, and institutions.

Many residents have had to rely on alternative sources such as boreholes and water tankers to meet their daily needs. The situation has sparked concerns among community members and local authorities, who have called for urgent intervention to resolve the crisis.

GWL reassured the public that the company is committed to improving water infrastructure and ensuring a reliable water supply to all affected areas. The company urged residents to bear with them as they work to restore normalcy.
