The Ghana Police Service has approved a picket by the staff of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) on October 31 at the State Insurance Company (SIC) headquarters in Accra.

This protest is in response to SIC’s failure to disburse over GH¢9 million in provident funds owed to KTU staff.
In 2010, approximately 566 staff members, including both junior and senior personnel, entered into a fund management agreement with State Insurance Company Financial Services Limited.
However, in 2022, the university’s management chose to withdraw from the agreement due to SIC-FSL’s inability to pay out insurance benefits to retirees and members needing funds for medical expenses.
During a press conference on this concerning issue on Wednesday, October 30, in Koforidua, Daniel Mbima, the Chairman of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana KTU Branch, announced that staff would gather at the SIC headquarters in Accra on Thursday, October 31, to voice their grievances.
“We are going to take any means that is required for us to get our monies retrieved from SIC Financial Services Limited. We wrote to the regional command and notified them that we wanted to picket on the ground of the SIC in Accra.
“We have been given the opportunity by the command. We have also notified them to give us our money, or we also gave them a notice that we are going to picket on the grounds of SIC in Accra,” he stated.
