Mr. Samuel Pyne, Mayor of Kumasi, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the condition of the pitch at Baba Yara Stadium.

The stadium, which has recently been the sole venue for Black Stars international matches, is set to host Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola on September 5, 2025.
Recent photos of the pitch, following a five-day church event, have raised concerns.
Esme Mends, the GFA club licensing board manager, has indicated that the pitch is not yet ready for use.
Esme Mends, in an interview with LUV FM, stated, “I regret to inform you that Baba Yara is not prepared to host a competitive game if there is to be any major activity.”
In response, Samuel Pyne expressed his concerns in an interview with Akoma FM and appealed to the Regional Director of the NSA to ensure that the Baba Yara pitch is properly prepared for the Black Stars’ use.
“I conveyed my displeasure with the images I have seen of Baba Yara to the NSA Boss Ashanti during our conversation.
I implored him to do whatever it takes to guarantee that the pitch is prepared for the Black Stars match against Angola because I will not be pleased if the game is moved to a different venue”.
Sam Pyne, on the other hand, requests that the NSA prevent Baba Yara Stadium from becoming trapped in the same situation as Tamale’s Aliu Mahama Stadium is currently.
“We should not allow Baba Yara Stadium to experience the same predicament as the Aliu Mahama Stadium is right now”.
