The Governing Council of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has set up a committee to examine issues arising from recent directives issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regarding staff who obtained degrees from institutions classified as “unrecognised.

In a press release dated December 15, 2025, and signed by the Registrar, the University said the committee has been mandated to interrogate GTEC’s directives as they apply to members of staff whose academic qualifications were acquired from some of the institutions listed as unrecognised.

The committee will also review a petition filed against the Vice-Chancellor, which alleges that his PhD was obtained from one of the universities described by GTEC as unrecognised.

According to the statement, the petition is currently under consideration, after which the Governing Council will take all necessary steps to protect the integrity and reputation of the University.

The Council assured stakeholders that the matter would be handled fairly and transparently, and appealed for patience as the process continues.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our stakeholders as we work to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner,” the statement concluded.
