Edward Quao, Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, has assured the public that the park’s vegetation will be fully restored within the next two months. His pledge comes in response to growing concerns over the park’s maintenance, especially regarding its landscaping and public amenities.

The park, which houses the final resting place of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, reopened to the public on July 4, 2023, after extensive renovations.
However, recent images highlighting the park’s deteriorating condition have sparked public outcry and raised questions about the facility’s sustainability and maintenance practices.
During an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on February 3, Quao reassured Ghanaians that efforts are underway to restore the park to its former state.
He mentioned that management is addressing the water supply issues by implementing an alternative irrigation system, including drilling wells within the park to supplement water supply for maintaining the greenery.
“We rely solely on Ghana Water Company for the water supply and there are men currently on site working on it. The fountain is supposed to have water at a certain level and if it rises beyond a certain level, the pump will burst
“We have wells drilled and we are trying a new irrigation system on the Park so we are hoping that the Park will become green again in the next two months.”
In addition to the vegetation concerns, visitors have also raised complaints about the condition of the park’s washroom facilities, which are reportedly out of service.
Addressing this, Mr Quao assured that repairs were actively ongoing, and the restrooms would soon be reopened to the public.
“Just last week, we had our plumber come to check what was wrong with the toilets and it is just about a matter of cleaning and we will get them back on. By where we are located, usage on the toilets is heavy and putting pressure on the toilets.”
