Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah is focused on leading Sudan to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming for a notable achievement in his coaching career.

Appiah, who previously led Ghana to the 2014 World Cup, sees this as a significant milestone if he can guide the North African nation to World Cup qualification.

Currently, Sudan has secured three wins and one draw, totaling 10 points, giving them a two-point lead over Senegal, who are in second place with eight points.

In a recent interview with FIFA, Appiah highlighted the potential impact of World Cup qualification: “Reaching the World Cup would greatly advance football development in Sudan, simplify administrative processes, and potentially transform the lives of my players.”

He noted that with only two professionals currently in the squad, World Cup participation could inspire players to pursue careers in Europe and shift their outlook on their potential.

The joy and impact of such an achievement would be immense for Sudan, he added.

Appiah’s Sudan is also competing in the same group as Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
