Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah is optimistic that both the Falcons of Jediane and Ghana will qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghanaian coach expressed his views as Sudan prepares for a crucial doubleheader against the Black Stars, a team he has previously managed on two occasions.

Appiah, who guided Ghana to the 2014 World Cup and served as head coach during the 2013 and 2019 AFCON tournaments, is acutely aware of the high stakes for both teams.

Currently, Sudan sits in second place in their qualifying group with three points, while Ghana trails in third with just one point. Angola leads the group with six points, and Niger occupies the bottom position.

Appiah emphasized the importance of both teams securing qualification for the tournament in Morocco, stating, “I hope both Ghana and Sudan qualify for the 2025 AFCON.” He added, “We just have to pray and hope that we all achieve our goal.”

The first leg of the match will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, followed by the return fixture on Monday in Libya.

Since his appointment as Sudan’s coach in September 2023, Appiah has positioned the team for potential success in both AFCON and a possible spot in the 2026 World Cup.

He remarked, “My top priority is to qualify Sudan for the 2026 World Cup. Sudan has never been there, but I hope God uses me as a medium to achieve that.”
