Former Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has cautioned against the potential consequences of further delaying the passage of Ghana’s lithium agreement.

At a stakeholder forum in Parliament on Tuesday, September 3, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that lithium has a finite lifespan and could become obsolete quickly.

He urged Parliament to expedite the approval process to avoid missing out on this opportunity.

“We must declare in our minds that if we don’t take action, we may experience stranded assets in not too distant the future. As far as lithium is concerned, we should not think that it is an eternal resource.

“What is happening now, pretty soon, if we are not careful, it may fall into the category of stranded assets. That is not to say that we should not approach it with some degree of caution.”
