Daddy Bosco, a board member of the Ghana Reggae Dancehall Awards, has dismissed claims by Highlife artist Adangba that dancehall music encourages hooliganism among Ghanaian youth.

Bosco, along with other notable figures in the Reggae/Dancehall community, argued that such assertions are misguided and hinder the genre’s growth.

In a previous interview, Adangba suggested that the genre’s style and lyrics foster a rebellious and violent culture, citing a 2019 incident involving artists Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.

He claimed that the genre’s Jamaican roots have brought negative influences to Ghana.

However, Daddy Bosco clarified that while a few individuals in the scene may misrepresent the genre, their actions do not reflect dancehall’s core values.

Speaking on October 22, 2024, Bosco stated, “Many who criticize Dancehall music for promoting hooliganism don’t truly understand its essence. The genre often advocates for social justice, focusing on the hardships of marginalized communities.”

He further urged listeners to appreciate dancehall’s cultural and social significance rather than generalizing based on isolated incidents.

Ras Kuuku, a Reggae Dancehall musician, also supported Bosco’s views, emphasizing that the genre promotes peace and calling for an end to negative stereotypes.
