Abraham Sambou, a final-year student at Labone Senior High School in Accra, is currently receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital after allegedly being assaulted by senior housemaster Eric Agyemang, also known as ‘Power’.

The student was referred to the hospital by Cantonments Police officers, where the incident was officially reported.

According to a formal petition made available, Sambou’s family alleges that Agyemang slapped their son on June 18, 2024, after a false accusation by school prefect Blessing Elisha Nyamekye.

Sambou denied using a mobile phone and refusing to hand it over, but was nevertheless detained in the senior housemaster’s office without food or water until his family arrived to meet with school management.

The family is calling for a full and impartial investigation by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education, seeking Agyemang’s accountability for his actions and Sambou’s reinstatement in the boarding house.

They also expressed concerns about Agyemang’s history of physical abuse and unfair treatment of students, citing previous incidents of physical punishment and intimidation.

The petition further alleged that Sambou was indefinitely expelled from the boarding house without due process, and that Rejoice Acorlor, another school official, was involved in the unfair treatment of students.

The family is urging the GES and Ministry of Education to monitor Acorlor’s conduct to ensure fair treatment of students.

The student underwent initial treatment on June 25, 2024, and was subsequently referred to specialized departments, including Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) and Ophthalmology, for further care.

The Ghana Education Service has not yet reacted to the matter, and the student’s family is seeking justice and a safe learning environment for all students.
