The Minerals Commission has stated that allegations made by Yusif Sulemana, MP for Bole-Bamboi, are false.

Sulemana claimed that Minister Samuel Jinapor gave mining rights to foreign companies without consulting the necessary people.

The Commission released a statement on June 24 saying these claims are not true.

“The attention of the Minerals Commission (“the Commission”) has been drawn to publications in a section of the media, attributed to the Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Yusif Sulemana, accusing the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission of granting mining concessions to foreigners without proper consultations.

The said accusations, claims and/or allegations are false, baseless and unfounded.”

The Minerals Commission emphasizes that the Mining Act and Regulations require consultation with affected parties before granting mineral rights.

When an application is received, the Commission publishes a notice and serves copies to relevant stakeholders, including landowners, chiefs, local authorities, and interest groups, allowing them to raise concerns.

“Upon receipt of an application for a mineral right, notice of the application is published in the Gazette, and copies served on the relevant landowner, Chief, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA), as well as other interested groups and stakeholders, to enable them to raise any concerns they may have,” an excerpt of the statement said.

The Minerals Commission is urging the public to ignore the false claims made by MP Yusif Sulemana.

Sulemana had accused Minister Jinapor and the Commission of granting mining concessions without proper consultation, leading to tensions in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency.

The Commission denies these allegations, emphasizing that it follows strict consultation processes as required by law.
