The Co-Chair of the Citizen Movement Against Corruption, Edem Senanu, has urged law enforcement agencies to take swift action on allegations of voter influence during the special voting exercise at the Legon Police Station polling centre in Ayawaso West Wuogon.

The controversy centers around the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who was filmed distributing water to voters in a queue during the December 2 special voting exercise. This act has sparked concerns, with some interpreting it as an attempt to influence voters.

In response, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, lodged a formal complaint with the Office of the Special Prosecutor, accusing Madam Alhassan of voter manipulation.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on December 3, 2024, Senanu emphasized the need for law enforcement to take decisive action.

“We don’t want people to be accusing and fighting. Let the mandated law enforcement agencies examine the facts and draw a conclusion. Depending on what the law says, they also take the necessary action. It is a proper thing to do so that we don’t have people taking the law into their own hands and any antagonism that might lead to any form of conflict.

“I think that what we need to see is the swiftness of law enforcement agencies during this period. So, quickly there is a finding, and there is a public statement reassuring everyone that actions will be taken. And also ensuring that others don’t take the law into their hands and impunity begins to be the name of the game,” he stated.
