Lee Carsley is set to become the interim manager of the England men’s national team for their upcoming Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September.

The former Premier League midfielder has managed England’s Under-21s since 2021, leading them to their first European Championship title in 39 years last year.
This appointment follows Gareth Southgate’s resignation after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat.
While the FA searches for a permanent replacement, Carsley’s experience with the England setup and recent success with the Under-21s make him a strong choice for the interim role.
The transition from managing England’s youth teams to leading the senior side has been made by several former managers, including Howard Wilkinson, Stuart Pearce, and Gareth Southgate.
Carsley, 50, is a former Premier League midfielder who had a 17-year career with clubs such as Derby and Everton.
He then moved into management, taking on caretaker roles with Coventry, Brentford, and Birmingham before joining the England setup in 2020.
