The High Court, presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe, has scheduled Thursday, June 6, 2024, to deliver its rulings on multiple applications filed by the accused persons in the Republic versus Cassiel Ato Forson, Sylvester Anemana (discharged), and Richard Jakpa.

The lawyers for the two remaining accused, Richard Jakpa and Cassiel Ato Forson, filed their applications on May 28 and May 30, 2024, respectively.

Jakpa is seeking to have the charges against him dropped, while Forson is requesting an order of mistrial.

During the court session on June 4, 2024, Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe confirmed that all parties had been served with the filed processes and decided to rely on the documents to determine the applications.

The court will also hear oral submissions on an objection raised by Thaddeus Sory, counsel for Jakpa, regarding an affidavit in opposition filed by the Attorney General.

Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame countered that the objection was without merit, arguing that the affidavit did disclose the source of the information.

Dame also stated that the legal authorities cited by Sory were irrelevant since the case is a criminal matter, not a civil one.

After hearing the arguments, the court ruled that it would deliver a reasoned ruling on all applications on June 6, 2024. The court will deliver rulings on four applications in total.

Outside the courtroom, Attorney General Dame accused the accused persons of using tactics to delay the trial.

He expressed confidence in the justice system, stating that righteousness will always prevail over evil.

The applications filed by Jakpa and Forson are based on claims that Attorney General Dame had private meetings with Jakpa to influence his cooperation against Forson.

Attorney General Dame has denied these allegations, labeling the applications as frivolous, vexatious, and a complete waste of the court’s time.
