Martin Kpebu, a prominent legal expert, has expressed disappointment with the presidential report on Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), citing its failure to provide a detailed assessment of financial losses.

He believes the president deliberately chose KPMG due to the firm’s existing ties with the government, which may have influenced the report’s lenient tone towards SML.

On TV3’s Big Issues, Kpebu stressed the need for a comprehensive evaluation of losses, pointing out that the report’s terms of reference did not prioritize quantifying financial losses. Instead, the report focused on vaguely defined benefits, which Kpebu finds unsatisfactory.

He emphasized that the report’s admission of SML’s incomplete delivery of services warrants a thorough investigation and prosecution.

Kpebu argued that the government’s relationship with KPMG may have compromised the report’s objectivity, particularly in assessing financial losses.
