The music world is mourning the loss of legendary soul singer Frankie Beverly, who passed away at the age of 77.

His family confirmed the news on social media, sharing a heartfelt statement that celebrated his life and legacy.

Beverly was known for his iconic hits like “Before I Let Go” and “Can’t Get Over You,” which have become staples of the soul music genre.

Throughout his career, Beverly was dedicated to his craft, living his life with “pure soul” as his family so eloquently put it.

He began his music journey in the 1960s with the doo-wop group The Blenders, before later forming The Butlers and eventually founding Maze in 1970.

The band was originally called Raw Soul, but was convinced to change its name by none other than Marvin Gaye, who they supported on tour.

Maze went on to release nine albums between 1977 and 1993, with hits like “Happy Feelings” and “While I’m Alone” cementing their place in music history.

Beverly’s music had a profound impact on many artists, including Beyoncé, who covered his hit single “Before I Let Go” in 2019.

He was deeply touched by the tribute, describing it as “one of the high points of [his] life” and praising Beyoncé as a “great friend.”

Beverly’s legacy extends far beyond his music, with his impact felt deeply in the city of Atlanta, where he performed several sold-out concerts at Chastain Amphitheater.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens released a statement mourning the loss of the legendary musician, recognizing his contributions to the entertainment industry and the memories he created for countless fans.

Beverly was awarded the Phoenix Award, the City of Atlanta’s highest honor, earlier this year for his timeless musical contributions.
