Rodaline Imoru Ayarna, a member of the Movement for Change, has urged the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to postpone its planned presidential debate until after the Electoral Commission certifies the presidential aspirants.

She mentioned that the leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, is willing to participate in the debate but emphasized that the IEA should wait for the EC to officially announce the certified presidential candidates. She made these remarks on TV3’s The Big Issue on Thursday, August 8.
She added, “The Movement for Change will participate in the debate, it will afford us visibility, it will afford us the opportunity to tell Ghanaians our vision.”
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has scheduled debates for selected presidential candidates and their running mates in the upcoming December 7 elections, set to take place in October and November.
Sophia Akuffo, a distinguished fellow at the IEA, defended the importance of holding a presidential debate ahead of the 2024 general elections, highlighting it as a crucial platform for candidates to present their policies and engage with the electorate.
Sophia Akuffo stated that the debate will offer a unique platform for candidates to elaborate on their policies for the country, while also demonstrating their credibility and competence.
“While we tackle our challenges, we need vision, courage, and wisdom to shape our common future.
“This highlights the importance of a debate in drawing out the vision, competence, credibility and capacity of candidates in addressing our national challenges,” the former Chief Justice said while announcing dates for the debates this year.
