Legal expert Martin Kpebu has provided a detailed analysis of the charges brought against actor LilWin by the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD).

The actor faces allegations of dangerous driving and negligent harm, resulting in the tragic death of a three-year-old child.

Kpebu notes that a guilty verdict may lead to imprisonment or a fine, with fines being the more common penalty in similar cases.

However, he emphasizes that imprisonment for up to five years is possible in severe cases, highlighting the need for harsher punishments to deter drivers from reckless behavior.

The lawyer’s comments come as Ghana grapples with a high rate of road accident fatalities, with over 2000 deaths recorded annually in the past decade.

Kpebu argues that stricter penalties, including jail terms, are necessary to combat this trend. “We don’t often charge drivers with manslaughter, but reckless and dangerous driving charges are common,” he explained in an interview with Joy FM.

“Despite the alarming number of road accident fatalities, drivers are often let off with fines, which may not serve as a sufficient deterrent.”

LilWin, who was discharged from the hospital on Monday, has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 27.

The accident, which occurred on May 25 in Kumasi, involved LilWin’s vehicle and another car, resulting in injuries and the tragic loss of a young life.

Despite his injuries, LilWin attended the premiere of his new movie later that day, showing resilience in the face of adversity.

His management has expressed support for the bereaved family, pledging to provide assistance during this difficult time.

As the case unfolds, Ghanaians are watching with bated breath, hoping for a outcome that will serve as a deterrent to reckless driving and promote road safety.
