Liverpool have confirmed the departure of 19-year-old midfielder Bobby Clark, who has joined Red Bull Salzburg on a permanent transfer.

Clark, who arrived from Newcastle United’s academy in 2021, made 14 appearances for Liverpool’s senior team, including a substitute appearance in last season’s Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea.

He has signed with the Austrian side Salzburg, managed by Jürgen Klopp’s former assistant, Pep Lijnders.

Clark announced on social media, “After an incredible three years at Liverpool, I’ve decided it’s time for a new challenge. I’ve learned so much during my time at the club and am very thankful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had. Thank you to all the fans who supported me on this journey.”

According to Paul Joyce, the deal is worth up to £10 million for Liverpool, who have also secured a 17.5% sell-on clause and the right to match any future bids for Clark.

Clark expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I am very happy about this career move and can hardly wait to be on the pitch with my new teammates. For me, this is the perfect step to the perfect club.

Seeing players like Sadio Mané and Dominik Szoboszlai, who were developed here, has been a great inspiration. Pep Lijnders, who I know from Liverpool and who is the coach here, also influenced my decision.”

Liverpool’s decision to sell several young talents this summer, including Fabio Carvalho and potentially Sepp van den Berg for £30 million, has drawn some frustration from fans.

However, sources have confirmed that these sales are part of a planned academy reset, with the club’s new leadership believing changes are necessary at the youth level.
