The Local Government Service Workers’ Union (LGSWU) has distanced itself from the ongoing strike initiated by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).

The strike, which began on Thursday, February 20, 2025, is in protest of the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, a move that CLOGSAG claims is politically motivated.
CLOGSAG’s General Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, has called on the Presidency to revoke Botchway’s appointment, citing a Supreme Court ruling that prohibits civil servants from engaging in active partisan politics.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 21, the LGSWU clarified that it is not participating in the strike due to an ongoing legal case concerning the matter.
Consequently, the union has instructed its members to continue their duties as usual.
“For these reasons and upon further consultations by the National Management Committee with all the regional councils, the Local Government Service Workers’ Union has taken a unanimous decision not to join the strike action.”
