As Ghana prepares for the 2024 U20 Women’s World Cup, Black Princesses forward Mafia Nyame has committed to giving her all to help the team achieve a successful tournament.

Under coach Yussif Basigi, the team is set to compete in the World Cup for the seventh consecutive time, with the challenging goal of advancing past the group stage—a feat they have not yet accomplished in their previous six appearances.

Nyame, who joined the team’s training camp earlier this month, is eager to make a significant impact on the global stage.

“I’m excited to be back with the national team to represent the nation. It’s an honour I do not take for granted,” Mafia Nyame said. “I’m going to make a mark at the 2024 World Cup.

Though I was part of the team in Costa Rica, I didn’t have enough playing time. Hopefully, if I make it to the squad this time, I’ll do my best for the nation.”

This will be Nyame’s second U20 World Cup. She took part in the previous tournament in Costa Rica, making one substitute appearance in a 4-1 defeat to the Netherlands.

Currently training with her teammates in Cape Coast, the AS FAR winger is eager to make a significant impact this time around.

The Black Princesses are coming off impressive performances, including winning gold at the 2023 African Games and the WAFU B Girls Cup last year. They are determined to bring this success to the global stage.

In Group E, Ghana will compete against former champions Japan, New Zealand, and Austria, making Nyame’s contributions vital for their success.
