The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has sharply criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, accusing it of causing the decline of the Produce Buying Company (PBC), Ghana’s largest local cocoa-buying firm.

Mahama pointed to PBC as a prominent example of poor governance, stressing that many Ghanaian businesses face similar struggles. He expressed concern for PBC employees, who have allegedly gone unpaid for 8 to 9 months, with no clear timeline for when salaries will resume.
The former president made these comments while addressing supporters at a campaign event in Enchi Aowin, Western North Region.
“In eight years, the economy has dwindled. When I was president, PBC bought 30 percent of Ghana’s cocoa. Now they can no longer do so.
“The company has collapsed under this government. For eight years, they have not been able to pay the workers as well.”
