John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to the residents of Bawku to maintain peace and avoid conflict in light of recent violent clashes in the area that have resulted in casualties and injuries.

Speaking during a campaign tour in the Northern Region on October 29, 2024, Mahama urged the people to employ peaceful methods to address their grievances rather than resorting to violence.
He expressed concern over the disturbances, stating, “I want to appeal to the people of Bawku area and all those who are stakeholders there to exercise patience, restraint.”
Mahama highlighted that allowing themselves to be manipulated by outside forces could lead to further unrest.
The former president noted the presence of “sinister hands” attempting to provoke ethnic conflict and emphasized the importance of remaining calm.
He assured the residents that an incoming NDC government would work to ensure lasting peace in Bawku and surrounding areas, saying, “NDC is coming; when we come, we’ll make sure there is peace in Bawku and surrounding areas.”
Mahama’s comments come amid heightened tensions in Bawku, where recent clashes have reignited concerns about stability in the region.
