National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate and former President, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration’s handling of the banking sector, describing it as poor and insensitive.

According to Mahama, the government’s actions have devastated countless lives and plunged families into debt.

In a Facebook post, Mahama stated, “Years after the poor and insensitive decisions by Akufo-Addo and Bawumia in the banking sector, countless lives have been destroyed, leaving families in debt, poverty, and devastation.

This happens when a nation gambles with the well-being of its people. The power is in our hands—let’s choose a better future.”

Mahama previously pledged to reinstate the licenses of banks he believes were unjustly closed during the Bank of Ghana’s recapitalization exercise.

In his acceptance speech at the University for Development Studies (UDS) on May 15, 2023, after being elected NDC flagbearer, Mahama committed to supporting local investment in banking, finance, telecommunications, tourism, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing.

He promised a tiered banking system to serve various market segments and pledged to restore careers for those laid off during the financial sector reforms.
