John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly condemned the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), stating that it has caused severe hardships for Ghanaians.

In a speech delivered in Kasoa, Awutu Senya East Constituency, as part of his Central Regional tour, Mahama claimed that many Ghanaians impacted by the DDEP are enduring silent suffering, with the government seemingly indifferent to their struggles.

He pointed to the recent passing of Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO of Kama Group, who had publicly criticized the DDEP, as evidence of the program’s harmful effects.

Mahama emphasized, “Government bonds are supposed to be the safest investments in the world, but not in Ghana under the NPP. Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo’s death highlights the silent suffering many are enduring because of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.”

Mahama also outlined his vision for Kasoa, promising to continue development projects he initiated in 2016 if elected.

He praised the progress Kasoa had made under his previous administration, transforming from a small town into a growing urban center, and criticized the NPP for failing to continue this development.

“Kasoa was just a small town, but we started raising its standards, building the foundation for growth. The NPP came in with empty promises but has failed to further develop the area.

I’m confident the NDC will win this December, and when we do, we’ll continue Kasoa’s growth from where we left off,” Mahama assured the crowd.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to alleviating economic pressures on Ghanaians and driving meaningful development across the country.
