President John Dramani Mahama has instructed Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to urgently address the $156 million funding gap caused by the suspension of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) program.

In a statement issued on February 11, the Presidency expressed concern over the deficit’s impact on critical health and social intervention programs. Among the most pressing issues is a $78.2 million shortfall, which threatens vital services such as malaria prevention, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, reproductive health, and nutrition.

The funding gap also poses a significant challenge to Ghana’s fight against HIV/AIDS, potentially limiting access to antiretroviral drugs, testing, and preventive measures. President Mahama has emphasized the urgency of resolving the issue to safeguard essential healthcare services and protect vulnerable populations.

To mitigate these effects, President Mahama has instructed the Finance Ministry to prioritize urgent interventions and implement immediate funding solutions to prevent disruptions in healthcare and social services.
