Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has stated that President-elect John Dramani Mahama inherits an economy burdened with significant challenges.

However, he expressed confidence that Mahama would navigate through these difficulties successfully.

Speaking to the press in Accra on Monday, December 9, Iddrisu emphasized that Ghanaians cannot be taken for granted, quoting the saying, “If you fail us, we will hold you accountable.”

He acknowledged the difficult economic situation Mahama is stepping into but expressed optimism that the new president would overcome the challenges ahead.

Mahama himself has also criticized the outgoing Akufo-Addo administration for leaving the country in economic turmoil. He admitted that his new government would face a tough road ahead as he works to implement reforms.

“We should not forget the people of Ghana,” Mahama remarked. “We will implement governance reforms. The road ahead will not be easy due to the difficult state the outgoing government has left the country in.”

Mahama also stressed the importance of national unity and collaboration, underscoring the need to serve the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has formally congratulated Mahama on his victory in the December 7 election.

The outgoing president reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transfer of power on January 7, 2025, and expressed his readiness to work with Mahama and his team toward that goal.

Akufo-Addo commended the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian public for conducting a peaceful and credible election and invited Mahama to Jubilee House on December 11 to begin the transition process. This reflects Ghana’s continued leadership in democratic governance within Africa.

Lastly, President Akufo-Addo urged all Ghanaians to unite, uphold the rule of law, and continue to work together for the greater good of the nation.
