President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with heads of security agencies at the Jubilee House in Accra ahead of his anticipated visit to Bawku.

The meeting comes amid ongoing ethnic tensions between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities, which have plagued the area for decades.
While the specifics of the President’s visit remain under wraps, it is seen as a key step in delivering on his campaign pledge to prioritize peacebuilding and conflict resolution in the region.

Bawku has long been a hotspot of ethnic disputes, primarily rooted in disagreements over land ownership between the Kusasi and Mamprusi groups.
These tensions have often escalated into violent confrontations, resulting in loss of life, displacement and disruption of socioeconomic activities.

The most recent surge in violence has had devastating consequences. Official reports indicate that at least 41 lives have been lost in the latest clashes with many more injured or displaced.

Schools and businesses have been forced to close intermittently, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty and fear.
