A recent survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics, a research agency, has revealed a significant shift in voter preferences in four strongholds of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region.

With less than seven months until the 2024 elections, the survey indicates that former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is leading in Okaikwei Central, Okaikwei South, Anyaa Sowutuom, and Trobu constituencies.

According to the survey, 40.5% of voters in these constituencies, which the NPP won by an average of 62% in the 2020 elections, plan to vote for Mahama in the December 7, 2024, election.

In contrast, only 36% indicated they would vote for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer.

The survey also revealed that 1.8% of voters prefer Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force, while 1.7% support Alan Kyeremanten of the Movement for Change. Notably, 10.4% of voters stated they will not vote, and 9.4% are undecided.

The survey suggests “skirt and blouse” voting, also known as tactical voting, as NPP parliamentary candidates are outperforming their presidential candidate in all four constituencies.

Furthermore, 74% of voters believe the country is heading in the wrong direction under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with 62% stating their standard of living has worsened since Akufo-Addo took office.
