The NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has committed to addressing the significant developmental challenges faced by the residents of Savelugu in the Northern Region if he wins the forthcoming elections.
During his third day of campaigning in the Northern Region, Mahama visited the Yaa Naa’s Palace, where he assured Savelugu residents that he would tackle pressing issues such as water shortages, inadequate road infrastructure, and other developmental deficits in the area.

He also pledged to enhance the status of the Pong Tamale Veterinary College by affiliating it with the University for Development Studies (UDS), which aims to improve the institution’s standing and broaden educational opportunities.
The former president emphasized that his administration would strive to uplift the lives of Savelugu’s residents by ensuring better governance and development across critical sectors if re-elected on December 7.
“It is my hope that the people of Ghana will vote for the NDC to continue the positive initiatives we had started. I understand that Savelugu faces numerous issues and challenges.
Water scarcity remains a significant concern, along with the state of the road network, market facilities, and the Pong Tamale Veterinary College, all of which the NDC plans to address.
“We will resolve the water issues. We are considering linking the Pong Tamale Veterinary College to the University of Development Studies to upgrade the facility and increase the number of students trained there.
Additionally, we aim to enhance the Savelugu vocational school, providing our youth with the opportunity to learn vocational skills and earn certificates,” he stated.
The Yaa Naa, Abdullai Yakubu Andani, expressed his worries regarding the current state of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. He highlighted the challenges posed by the lengthy periods students spend at home, combined with shorter school terms, which have become burdensome for parents.
He urged Mr. Mahama to reform the Free SHS system to ensure students enjoy more classroom time, thereby enhancing the quality of education. The Yaa Naa also called for improvements in healthcare, water supply, and road infrastructure to help alleviate the hardships faced by the people of Savelugu.
“Regarding education, we, as parents, are not satisfied with the current situation. Students spend only about a month in school before returning home for three months. It would be better if they spent around three months in school and just one month at home.
The long breaks put a considerable strain on parents. Therefore, we appeal to H.E. John Dramani Mahama to review the Free SHS policy when he is elected president.”
