Former President John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), welcomed a delegation from the West African Elders Forum on Monday, October 7.

The delegation was led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
This visit came shortly after Mr. Mahama returned to Accra from his campaign tour of the Savannah region.
“Since 2020, the Forum has been actively working to prevent conflicts arising primarily from elections in the subregion.
This initiative is both commendable and beneficial, and I had the honor of leading the Forum’s mission during the recent Nigerian election,” Mr. Mahama stated.

He noted that the delegation’s presence in Ghana is particularly timely and important, given that there are fewer than 60 days until the elections.
“We all desire a peaceful election, but achieving that peace relies on the groundwork and preparation conducted beforehand. If we handle everything correctly in the lead-up, the election will be both peaceful and successful. As the NDC, we remain steadfast in our commitment to a peaceful election.
Cooperation among all parties, especially with the Electoral Commission, which should act as a neutral arbiter, is essential for getting it right once again,” he emphasized.
