John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has warned individuals spreading disinformation about the election date schedule that they could face prosecution if the NDC wins the 2024 general elections.

This statement follows the arrest of Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, who allegedly encouraged voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December elections.

Asiedu was arrested on Saturday, November 23, 2024, on charges of publishing false news and was later granted bail by the Ghana Police Service.

His arrest followed an invitation by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Friday, November 22, 2024, after he allegedly spread misinformation about the voting process. Mahama’s warning underscores the NDC’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

The statement, which quickly spread on social media, was described by the Ghana Police Service as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

According to police, the comments had the potential to create confusion among voters and undermine public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.

Mahama while addressing constituents in Prestea Huni Valley in the Western Region on Wednesday, during the final leg of his three-day campaign tour of the area called on the public to disregard such reports

“We are all voting on the same day. The lie being propagated by the NPP that some will vote on the 7th and others on the 8th should be disregarded.

“Those spreading this disinformation should be careful because it is a crime. If they continue, we are taking notice of them, and if the NDC comes into government, we will arrest all of them,” he said.
