In a recent Facebook Live conversation, John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urged Ghanaian youth to vote out the current government and elect him as the next president in the upcoming elections.

He promised to “reset” Ghana and restore collapsed banks and financial institutions after a thorough and unbiased assessment.

Mahama expressed his disappointment and concern over the unprecedented unemployment rate and assured the youth that his 24-hour economy initiative would provide decent and well-paying jobs.

He emphasized the need for hope and faith in God and the power of their thumb, promising that Ghana would be put back on the path of progress and prosperity.

Under the Akufo-Addo government, 10 banks owned by Ghanaian businesspeople were collapsed between 2017 and 2020, with 347 microfinance institutions, 39 finance houses, and 53 fund management companies also affected.

Mahama promised to repair the damage done to the economy and people, giving businessmen and women who have been given raw deals a chance to have their say and be restored.

He encouraged Ghanaians to exercise their franchise by voting for him and the NDC parliamentary candidate in their constituency, promising to build a country of shared growth and prosperity.

With 23 functional universal banks remaining after the banking sector reforms, Mahama’s promise to restore collapsed banks and financial institutions offers hope to those affected by the financial sector clean-up exercise.
