A contentious penalty decision allowed Newcastle to secure a tense 1-1 draw against reigning champions Manchester City at St. James’ Park.
Manchester City initially took the lead with a first-half goal from defender Josko Gvardiol. However, they were equalized in the second half when Anthony Gordon converted a penalty after being fouled in the box by Ederson.

Newcastle started strongly, posing early threats on the counterattack, but Manchester City gradually found their rhythm as the match progressed.
Despite Newcastle’s lively opening, City broke the deadlock 10 minutes before halftime, with Josko Gvardiol finding the net against the run of play, slotting a well-placed shot past Nick Pope to give the Cityzens the lead at the break.
In the second half, Newcastle started more aggressively, and Anthony Gordon was fouled by Ederson after evading the offside trap. Gordon calmly converted the resulting penalty, equalizing the score at 1-1.
The Magpies kept up the pressure, with Harvey Barnes forcing another save from Ederson as City appeared rattled.
Phil Foden’s introduction helped City regain their composure, leading to several late chances, but neither team could find a winning goal, resulting in a shared point.
