Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, is being lauded for his quick thinking and compassionate actions when he assisted a fellow passenger who collapsed during a flight to Lisbon on Monday.
Fernandes, fresh off an impressive performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Leicester City where he scored a goal and contributed two assists, was traveling to Portugal to join the national team for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against Poland and Croatia.
The incident occurred mid-flight, as Fernandes was on his way to Portugal.
According to Susanna Lawson, a fellow passenger who witnessed the event, a shout for help was heard after Fernandes had gone to the rear of the plane. She recalled that Fernandes was seen holding a man who appeared to be losing consciousness.
Lawson explained that Fernandes quickly guided the unwell passenger to a vacant seat at the back of the aircraft and stayed by his side to ensure he was comfortable and received the necessary care.
“Bruno was holding a gentleman who looked like he was passing out. I don’t know if he lost consciousness or not,” Lawson told Business Cloud.
“He helped the gentleman sit down and stayed at the back with them, making sure he was OK.”
The airline staff also responded promptly, but Fernandes’ involvement and reassurance were crucial in stabilizing the passenger. The man reportedly recovered soon after, with Fernandes continuing to check on him until the situation was under control.
The incident has been widely praised by fellow passengers, who admired Fernandes’ calm and empathetic approach in an unexpected and stressful situation.
