Manchester United is preparing to activate Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim’s release clause following the recent departure of Erik Ten Hag.

Talks have progressed between the clubs, and Amorim could take charge for United’s Premier League match against Chelsea on Sunday.

Sporting issued a statement confirming United’s interest and highlighted a €10 million termination clause in Amorim’s contract.

Statement from the Portuguese club read: “Manchester United FC expressed interest in hiring coach Rúben Amorim, with the Board of Directors of Sporting SAD referring to the terms and conditions set out in the employment contract in force between the Company and the coach, specifically for the respective termination clause and for the amount of Euro 10,000,000.00”.

Before joining United, Amorim is expected to lead Sporting in the Portuguese League Cup against Nacional on Tuesday, while Ruud van Nistelrooy will oversee United’s Carabao Cup tie against Leicester on Wednesday.

This would mark United’s ninth managerial change since Sir Alex Ferguson’s era.
