German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has announced his retirement from international football.

The 38-year-old, who was instrumental in Germany’s 2014 World Cup victory, is ending his international career after earning 124 caps.

Neuer, a key player for Bayern Munich, made his international debut in 2009 and participated in eight major tournaments.

He captained Germany at the 2018 World Cup and was succeeded as captain by Ilkay Gundogan earlier this year.

This week, Ilkay Gundogan also announced his retirement from international football, following Toni Kroos, who retired after the Euro 2024 tournament.

Despite his international retirement, Manuel Neuer will continue his club career with Bayern Munich, where he has recently signed a contract extension until 2025.
